Withings has pushed an update to its ScanWatch 2, bringing a new AI-driven OS and five extra days of battery life. The announcement came at IFA 2025, and the new features are already rolling out to users. There are also two new 43mm colour options now available.
I reviewed the original ScanWatch 2 a couple of years ago. It’s still the most feature-packed hybrid timepiece on the market, and this update keeps it ahead of the curve. There hasn’t really been that much in terms of hybrid watches recently.
Software update adds AI and health tracking upgrades
The standout addition in the software refresh is a new vitality indicator. This uses heart rate variability, temperature trends, SpO2, sleep quality and respiratory rate to generate personalised energy insights. The feature aims to predict dips in energy before they happen, nudging users with proactive tips.

It’s actually similar in concept to Garmin’s Body Battery, the Amazfit BioCharge or Whoop data. So it’s nothing groundbreaking. However, Withings is aiming for something more medically grounded. Unfortunately, access to the vitality indicator requires a Withings+ subscription.

The ScanWatch 2 now monitors 35 health metrics. These include cardiovascular data, activity, temperature changes, and menstrual cycle insights. Night-time data plays a key role. Withings says the watch now tracks REM sleep more accurately and even analyses your sleep breathing rate. There’s also better prediction of menstrual cycle phases, especially useful for users with irregular cycles or in perimenopause, thanks to temperature-based algorithms.
Early illness detection and battery gains
Another notable addition is a system called TempTech24/7. This uses a heat flux sensor and skin temperature sensor to distinguish between ambient and body heat. It lets the ScanWatch 2 detect early signs of illness, such as flu onset, by spotting deviations in temperature and HRV patterns.

Despite all the new functionality, battery life has actually improved. The update stretches the runtime from 30 to 35 days. That’s not something you see often with firmware updates. The watch’s activity detection and pedometer have also been fine-tuned for greater accuracy.
As before, heart health remains a focus. The built-in PPG sensor keeps an eye on heart rhythm in the background. If it spots any irregularities, such as atrial fibrillation, the ScanWatch 2 prompts the user to run a medically certified ECG test directly on the device.

A redesign for the app and two new colours
The companion Withings Health Mate app has been redesigned to match the new system. It now surfaces key metrics more clearly and lets users pin the ones they care about most. The update also highlights relationships between data points, such as how activity levels influence sleep or how sleep affects next-day energy.
Alongside the software rollout, Withings has introduced two new colour options for the ScanWatch 2. The 42mm model is now available in Blue and Silver. The company refers to the refreshed devices as ScanWatch 2 2025 edition.
These come with the new OS pre-installed and are priced at €349.95, including a 3-month Withings+ subscription. If you’re not after a new colour, the existing models remain available.
There’s no confirmed date for when the HealthSense 4 update will hit older devices, but it’s clearly starting with the new stock.

New software brings more brains and better battery
At the heart of this refresh is something called HealthSense 4. This is the new operating system powering the ScanWatch 2. It adds AI-powered health analysis, including the ability to detect early signs of illness, predict menstrual cycles and warn of dropping energy levels. Withings says the update is designed to enable seamless 24/7 health tracking with a focus on subtle, longer-term patterns.
One of the standout features is a new “vitality indicator”. It taps into your data and uses AI to provide warnings when your energy might be trending downward. It also offers tips to help you optimise recovery and workload. The catch is that this sits behind the paywall of the Withings+ subscription service.
