The Finals Season 7 sees this underrated FPS game’s player count surge

The Finals is unlikely to crush Call of Duty or Valorant, but this FPS has a character all its own. The Running Man meets Titanfall 2 meets Red Faction (remember that one?), it’s a ridiculous high-octane outing that deserves to do well. Now, The Finals’ Season 7 update has dropped, giving it a major boost in player count and introducing one of the strangest FPS weapons you’re likely to encounter.

Launching back in December 2023, frantic FPS The Finals has had its share of ups and downs. After losing 83% of its player base, this free-to-play shooter seems to have acquired a steady, dedicated audience. Now, with the release of The Finals Season 7, it’s seen a serious boost in player numbers on Steam.

The Finals Season 7, which dropped yesterday, June 12, has seen its concurrent player count spike by around 10,000, peaking at 28,978. That may seem like small potatoes compared to its initial quarter of a million players, but when it comes to live service games like The Finals, having a solid player base matters.

So what has Season 7 of The Finals added? Dubbed The Divide, it adds a new map, a bizarre, bisected arena known as Nozomi/Citadel. The in-game lore is that it represents the struggle between the show’s sponsor and a hacker group. And, as with other maps, a good chunk of the arena can be destroyed.

On top of that, there are several new gadgets; the Breach Drill, which can burrow through surfaces, a Healing Emitter which slowly regenerates your team’s health, and the H+ infuser, another healing device.

If you prefer playing support, the latter device is sure to put a grin on your face. Sick of dropping healing items and rolling your eyes when no-one picks them up? Yes, I’m looking at you, Marvel Rivals players. With the H+ Infuser, you can simply heal teammates by shooting at them. Let’s see them ignore that!
