SAG-AFTRA board approves new contract

The national board of the SAG-AFTRA performers union has approved the “tentative” agreement it had reached with top games companies.

In a post on its website, the organisation recommended that members vote yes on the new contract; ratification is set to take place on June 18th.

Said agreement would increase compensation by 15.17 per cent, with annual three per cent increases in November 2025-through-2027.

On top of that, health and retirement contributions are being increased from 16.5 per cent to 17 per cent, before rising to 17.5 per cent in October 2026.

The new contract also makes sure that performers are protected from exploitation with regard to AI. Consent must be given for AI use, and these digital replicas have to be removed from use during strike action.

“Essential new safety provisions were also secured, including a requirement for a qualified medical professional to be present or readily available at rehearsals and performances during which hazardous actions or working conditions are planned,” the union wrote. “Rest periods are now provided for on-camera principal performers and employers can no longer request that performers complete stunts or other dangerous activity in virtual auditions.”

SAG-AFTRA announced earlier this week that it had reached a tentative agreement with top games firms; on June 11th, the organisation suspended strike action.
