Realme Watch 5 leak shows 1.97 inch AMOLED screen, built-in GPS, NFC

After a full year without a new smartwatch, Realme looks set to return with the Watch 5. Newly leaked material reveals a near 2-inch AMOLED screen, upgraded tracking with multi-band GNSS, and a redesigned body shown in black and silver finishes.

The leak comes from tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore via (Xpertpic), who posted what looks like an official spec sheet along with polished marketing images. It’s the kind of material you usually see right before launch, not early-stage mockups.

Interestingly enough, it seems the company will skip version 4 of the watch. We are going from Gen 3 straight to Gen 5. Realme hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but the level of detail suggests this is the real deal.

Display and design take a leap forward

So what does the info reveal?

For starters, the Realme Watch 5 will feature a 1.97-inch AMOLED screen with 390 by 450 pixel resolution. That’s a noticeable step up from the 1.8-inch TFT LCD display found on the 2022 Watch 3. The Watch 3 Pro had AMOLED, but at a smaller 1.78 inches. This time, brightness also climbs to 600 nits, which should improve visibility outdoors.

Users will be able to personalise the device with more than 300 watch face themes, including animated options. Two colour variants are shown in the leaked renders: black with a black strap, and silver with a silver strap.

Battery life and durability also improve

A 460mAh battery is expected to power the device. That’s larger than the 340mAh cell in the Watch 3 and even the Watch 3 Pro, which topped out at 345mAh. Claimed battery life is up to 14 days, or up to 20 days in Light Smart Mode. So that’s a few more days than its predecessors. Realme is also promising a 5-year battery lifespan.

The watch will carry an IP68 rating, just like the previous generation. That ensures resistance against dust and splashes, but it’s not really great water-proofing.

Built-in GPS and Bluetooth calling return

One of the key upgrades in the Watch 3 Pro was the addition of built-in GPS. That feature is returning in the Watch 5, with support for five GNSS systems. The basic Watch 3 relied on a connected phone for location tracking, so this will again set the Watch 5 apart from entry-level models. Beyond that we are expecting all the usuals, such as an accelerometer, optical heart rate and SpO2.

Bluetooth calling appears again, but the Watch 5 may go further. Leaked details mention high-definition Bluetooth calling and something called a Bluetooth intercom, which would allow direct communication with other devices without needing a phone. That would be a new feature for Realme smartwatches.

A compass is also included, along with NFC functionality for contactless payments. This could also potentially be used for campus access, other card-based services or other regional applications, depending on software support.

New features hint at lifestyle shift

Another new element is a game-specific mode. Screenshots show a simplified interface that can display live game stats, quick tools and perhaps real-time alerts during mobile gameplay. It looks designed more for short interactions than full control.

Music playback, call controls and a contacts shortcut are also shown. These were available on the Watch 3 Pro, but not as tightly integrated into a lifestyle interface.

How this compares to the Watch 3 series

Both the Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro launched back in 2022. The Watch 3 brought a larger display than its predecessor, but stuck with LCD tech and left out GPS. The Pro model improved things with an AMOLED screen and built-in location tracking, but still felt like a modest step forward.

The Watch 5 appears to go further, particularly with its larger AMOLED display, improved battery life, GNSS support, and more advanced communication features like the Bluetooth intercom. Realme also seems to be experimenting with broader use cases, from gaming overlays to membership management via NFC.

As far as a launch date, there has been no word yet. But it can’t be that far off – we are guessing probably in the next few weeks.
