MindsEye maker BARB “heartbroken” by game’s messy launch

The developer of MindsEye, Build a Rocket Boy, has published a statement saying it is “heartbroken” that it has disappointed gamers.

In a post on the project’s subreddit, the studio said it had identified the issue that was causing the title to be so buggy; it’s a memory leak that the company claims only impacted around 10 per cent of its users.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has been refunding people who purchased the game on PlayStation 5; this is pretty rare and the most recent time this happened in such a high profile manner was the damningly broken Cyberpunk 2077 back in 2020.

“We are heartbroken that not every player was able to experience the game as we intended,” Build a Rocket Boy wrote.

“Our priority is optimising performance and stability so that every player, across every device, can enjoy an equally high-quality experience.

“Our teams have worked tirelessly throughout the night to solve many of these issues, and we have now identified that the vast majority of crashes were caused by a memory leak. This impacted roughly 1 in 10 of our players.”
