Riding the bus just got a little smoother for Pixel Watch users. The June 2025 update is now rolling out, bringing small improvements to payments and smart home access.
Transit taps and smarter shortcuts
The most notable thing this time is transit support. You can now tap your Pixel Watch to pay on supported city transport systems even when the Wallet app isn’t open. For now, that only works in a few places, like Washington D.C., Seattle and Toronto. But it’s a step forward if you’re tired of fumbling with apps on a crowded train platform.
What’s slightly hidden in the details is that this only applies to municipal transit cards for now. If you want to use a credit or debit card, you’ll need to go into Wallet settings and turn that on. The watch also has to be unlocked for this to work. So it’s not entirely seamless yet.

The other functional change is to smart home controls. You can now set favorites directly on the watch. That means you can pick which lights, plugs or scenes show up on your wrist.
Behind the scenes stuff
Most of the rest of the update is under the hood stuff. The version number is BW1A.250605.004 and it’s available for all Pixel Watch models, including the first gen. The exception is cellular models in Japan and Singapore, which will get it a bit later.
Google’s own changelog doesn’t mention watch faces, but a few users have started reporting new designs showing up after updating. It’s not confirmed, but it wouldn’t be the first time Google quietly snuck in some extras without listing them.
Security fixes are part of the package too, but those are buried in the separate Pixel Watch bulletin. If that sort of thing matters to you, the link is here.
Rolling out now… slowly
The update officially starts today, but it’s coming in phases. That means some users might not see it for a while. If you’re feeling impatient, there’s the usual trick: go to your Pixel Watch settings, tap “System”, then tap “System updates” repeatedly until it kicks in. The tap-tap method doesn’t always work, but it often does.
So far, it looks like a pretty tame update. A few useful additions, some security tightening, and not much else.
