First-party and Game Pass push Xbox revenue up 10%

Microsoft has reported a ten per cent increase in revenue for its Xbox business.

Speaking to investors, chief financial officer Amy Hood said that its games division saw a 13 per cent rise in content and services – aka games and subscription – revenue for its 2024/25 financial year. This is due to better-than-expected performance of its first-party line-up and its Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

VP of investor relations Jonathan Neilson also told shareholders that Xbox Game Pass brought in close-to $5 billion in annual revenue for the first time ever. He added that over 50 million people have played Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, with over two billion hours played. That means on average, people have played 40 hours each.

Microsoft’s content and services revenue was also helped by the strong performance of its Xbox first-party line-up on PlayStation; during this quarter, the company released Forza Horizon 5 on Sony’s hardware, as well as Oblivion Remastered across all platforms.

There are also around 40 games in development at the moment.
